The Site
The site is a strip of gravel-covered earth between two rows of trees on Lobeda’s main square.
The Mission
Make complexity visible.
The Result
The team built seating and resting structure with integrated herbal gardens. Previous research has shown that people rarely linger on site, and use it mostly as a shortcut to a nearby tram station during rush hour. With the installation, the team invites people to break their routines and take a rest on a wooden flying carpet, an alternative to rushing by.
The project won the hearts of Lobeda’s residents and was voted to win the public choice award.
Team Statement
The installation is integrated into the dynamics of Lobedas civic square without interrupting its natural flow. By using the unused space between the overground desire-lines and underground tree roots the three wooden elements make the invisible movements and presence visible.
